I am not sure I understand this,,,
If what I understand is right, its pretty ridiculous...
correct me if I am wrong..
Microsnot wants resellers to send then copies of any quote requests for
systems that don't want an OS included??
Does this mean that soon, upgrading your processor will invalidate your
license? is that the next step? at what point is a system a new system?
It appears that microsoft is spending many millions of dollars chasing this,
and they would in no way shape or form get their money back... bit of a
waste of money for their shareholders wouldn't you say?
First of all, thats an invasion of privicy. And I will make a point of
making a legal note on any quote requests that I send out in future, that
the request is confidential, and is expressly foridden that it be viewed or
passed onto anyone outside of the company it was sent to punishable to the
full extent of the law... it might not be legal (then again, it might too.)
but I bet it will make the resellers think before they consider passing it
to microsnot..
Also, I suppose you could mention that you want to use linux on the quote,
so as to remove suspecision..... not that I would on general principles...
I have sold a great deal of OEM windows in my time in computer wholesales...
but I think this sort of monopoly chasing is why microsnot should be split
up... someone should point that out to the us justice department, its more
significant then the IE in windows thing I think... I would offer linux as
the only OS I will sell, but at the moment, I don't have time to teach
newies the ropes.
Can microsnot even do that? I mean even if they get leads from this, do
they have the right to barge into a business and demand to check the
software? or do they need a court order like everyone else...
and if they do need a court order, is a quote not asking for OEM winblows
with the PC sufficient cause for it???
I bet they are really cursing the fact that they can't buy out linux since
it appears quite apparent that eventually linux will become the "major"
operating system.
I mean when wine gets really good, and installing/uninstalling and
maintaining software gets as easy as windows, There is absolutly no reason
to have windows at all..... you'll be able to run all apps win32 and linux
and you won't need winblows to do it... then I will be a happy man.
Oh yeah, better add this for fear of legal repercussions...
Winblows is a registered trademark of Microsnot,..... all rights n stuff
reserved. :-)

I have read the articles, and it does sound like something that Microsoft
could and would pull off. Sounding like the caring company that is scared of
their beloved customers falling into the trap of BIOS messages that no boot
device was found. As if no other operating system than Windows exists.
It is a form of protectionism, because they must have noticed that Linux and
Beos are not that bad as Micro$oft is trying to depict them.
A part that made me giggle though was, that they claim that someone not
using
windows will be the victim of many virusses (Need I say Outlook? !!!) and
also
being left without support.
Well... I have had my own computer support company, and I have only once in
6
years succeeded to get some useful support from a microsoft employee. Which
happened only after I deposited over US$300 in the M$ bankaccount, which
granted me support for 2 months or 5 questions.
When I started using Linux and ran into problems, I have had so much support
(for free!!) and so fast, that at first I was amazed. (Still am at times.)
just my two euro-cents...
