topher says: Indeed, I had the same question. If you are using the 'gdm' login
screen, you should edit '/etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf' and take 'root' out of the "Exclude="
line.

if you are using 'kdm' (which seems to be the default for some unapparent reason, when
'gdm' was the default in 7.2...) I haven't a clue how to get the cool little guy
back....

You can change your default login by creating a file /etc/sysconfig/desktop which
should look something like:

#!/bin/sh
DISPLAYMANAGER=xxxx

where xxxx can be GNOME for gdm - KDE for kdm - or AnotherLevel for xdm

No, no, I want the rant dogs to run wild! I just spend 3 hours the other day
figureing out how to change the display manager to gdm, and 4 hours today figuring out
how NOT to have my /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions scripts re-written. I'm all for making a
Linux Distribution for new users, but let's keep the folks who like to configure
things their own way in mind!
