try typing "mount /mnt/floppy" without the inverted commas.. (in console or
xterm)

then open konqueror or whatever and browse to /mnt/floppy and if you had a
disk in the drive, it should now be accessable..

If you are not using automount, then its a good idea to type umount
/mnt/floppy
