Try opening a console window. Type in: su and then your password. Type
in: updatedb and press the [enter] key.
Sit back, as this can take several minutes.
In response to upgrading XFree, you do not have to upgrade all the time.
Some cards work poorly with the higher version of XFree.
In my case, I am sticking with 3.3.x
