Go here http://perso.mandrakesoft.com/~civileme Download the file Xtart as root move it to /usr/bin Now set the line in /etc/inittab id:5:initdefault: with a 3 in place of the 5 using your favorite editor in root mode. When the login screen appears, login as a user Then type Xtart And you will be able to choose any installed window manager. kdm is totally bypassed. When you want to change window managers, logout and use Xtart again. It is not yet a mandrake RPM. It was just a quick hack for some crashtesters who figured they needed it, but it does work solidly.
