You could try adding yourself (user) to the "cdrom" group in Userdrake 
(KMenu > Configuration > Userdrake).  While your there, you might also 
consider adding yourself to groups such as floppy, cdwriter, pppusers, 
etc.  That should work.

If you're still having problems, try posting the contents of your 
/etc/fstab file and the permissions on /mnt/cdrom.  Good luck.
