In Mandrake 8.0 messages are owned by root and read by group adm. By making one a member of adm group one can access it for reading. In RH7.1 linux it is not so. What all things to modify so that file is having -rwxr------ root adm permissions. I went through syslogs, syslog.conf. But I couldn't get any solutions.
