Are you running it from GNOME. If you are, I think you can XKill them,
rather than close them conventionally, log out and restart XServer. I
have something similar happen every now and then and that seems to work,
although sometimes it takes two or three stabs at it. There is probably
a better way, but I'll do whatever works until I find out the proper
way. It doesn't *seem* to hurt anything. I used to get frustrated and
re-install when several of these kind of things happened, but now I have
learned to be much more patient. It pays off, because the last
installation I did has been running since 8.0 came out and is the most
stable system I've ever had. The longer I leave it up, the less crashes
I have. Hope this helps.
