Providing your heatsink fans are working OK, it'll be fine. My machine
hasn't been switch off for over 3 years. It runs at 100% CPU utilisation
24/7 either rendering or running the Dnet client. You machine will idle
overnight, providing you aren't doing the same as me, so HD's will spin down
- this will cause a slight (maybe 2 or 3 seconds) delay when you start using
it the following morning (you'll hear the HD's spin back up again, don't
worry - it's normal!)
Make sure your monitor goes into standby after a period of inactivity (this
doesn't mean switching a screensaver on either!) - they use quite a bit of
power when they aren't sleeping.

Subject: [newbie] letting computer run overnight without
overheating
hi, I should ask my pc vender about this, but everyone here knows so
much
more, I just couldn't help but to ask here.
I have a pc with celeron 633 mhz processor with intel 810e
motherboard, will
it be safe if I try to let it on overnight? I love Mandrake and
have been
using it forever since 7.2, but it takes so long to boot up whenever
I want
to use it and I couldn't use the built in Standby mode because that
seems to
be only working with windows. I am hoping to be able to just leave
it on
all day long that I don't have to watch it boot up.
Most computers in school are ran 24/7, but they are mostly all air
conditioned and mostly are not placed near books. Does anyone know
if it is
safe for a home user to leave his/her computer on continuously?
Thanks very much for your help
Eric
