I've got two (well, now three) linux computers on my home network, and well, for a year now, I can't say that one of them has been off for more than 72 hours all-tolled. Thusfar my only loss was an IBM drive that was seemingly too stupid to shut down. Look at, as was suggested, the hard drive spin-down info for your equipment and insure that they spin down... or they may die fairly quick... like within a year.
