Thanks, I had guessed that compiling the usb modules into kernel might fix 
that issue, however what I did not mention was that I could not make the 
Nvidia drivers work either. I tried rebuilding the drivers from the src rpms, 
but x just kept respawning. Not sure what I was doing wrong, but I gave up 
and just resigned myself to clicking a button before removing a cd.
