at the moment the diversity of Linux is its downfall, why should anyone want
one killer app when you can have 5 half finished ones, 2 main desktops &
toolkits, several office suits (none of which talk the industry standard MS
office) ad nausea

sure Linux is simpler to install now, but excuse me for being more
interested in the end result

its like every Linux distro feels the need to offer the same end product in
a different way, and the same can be said for most of the competing
applications

frankly, at the moment Linux is a fragmented mess

Different distros are not like different releases of windows and should not
be compared in that way.
