Hi Ed, First a correction, the unmounting error occurs on dev/hda1 and dev/hda5 (not hda6).
Second, to answer you questions: > how are you shutting down the box? 1. from the prompt (not in any windowing system) I type "exit". this takes me to a promp asking me for a login. 2. i turn the computer off >what command? what is the last bit of info> on the screen as it shuts down? I don't use any command to turn the computer off - so I don't get any info on shutdown. thanks - eJ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ed Tharp" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2001 9:37 AM Subject: Re: [newbie] dev/hda6 was not cleanly unmounted > how are you shutting down the box? what command? what is the last bit of info > on the screen as it shuts down? > > On Saturday 08 December 2001 23:50, you wrote: > > Hi, > > > > I am getting this error ( along with a long list of errors) on bootup. > > > > " ... dev/hda6 was not cleanly unmouted .." > > > > I checked http://www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/admin/amount3.html#fsck > > > > it indicated that either 1) i haven't run shutdown before turning the > > machine off or 2) or were forced to reboot the machine because of a system > > freeze > > > > neither one is true. > > > > I was wondering how I can begin to fix this problem. > > > > thanks in advance. > > - eJ > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- > Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? > Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com >
