i had a same problem.

you should to chose step "i can set up your computer to automatically
start X upon booting would you like X to start when you reboot" to NO

than you can see the console after reboot.
and you can reconfigure /ete/X11/XF86Confiug or XF86Config-4

otherwise i don't know how to boot.

i fixed to XF86Config.
