Well this depends on which browser you are using. If it is konqueror clicking on a download will normally open the dialogue saying 'Save Open or Cancel' 'Save' will save the file to your hard drive while 'Open' will open the file using the application associated with that file suffix defined in KDE ControlCentre>File Browsing>File Associations If the application for that file type is 'embedded file viewer' then it will do as you describe and show the file contents in the konqueror window. It is real easy to alter the file associations and use a different application to handle that file type. IF you are not using konqueror of course, then everything I have just written is wrong ;-) derek
