I havent been following all the messages for this nor care to read them all
but here is what works for me:

First off i use Kmail and use its mail filter

1) i made a bunch of folders under one called 'Linux lists' such as hardware,
install, kde, kernal, network, other, programming, security, server,
software, virus, etc. just to name a few and you can also add some under the
sub folders if you see fit.

2) then i made a shit load of filter (over 200 i would say, not all at once
though they kinda evolve over time) which look something like this for a
basic one:

<start of filter>
Filter Criteria:
Match all of the following
Subject - contains - firewall
Subject - contains - newbie

Filter Actions:
move to folder - security
</start>

if you subscribe to the expert list also then you will also want to add a new
filter with the same entries except change 'newbie' to 'expert'. i have to
add the newbe and expert to everything (or the heading for other lists)
because i have friends that may email me questions about computers that would
get mixed up in the lists if i didn't add that so they go to my inbox

so you get an email such as "[Newbie] firewall don't work...help" then it will
be placed in the 'security' folder upon delivery.

if you get a lot about security then you could make a sub folder called
firewall and have any emails with newbie and firewall in the subject line go
to the 'firewall' folder. Hope you get the idea behind this so far.

I will add new ones temporaraly such as 'mkisofs' filter since their has been
many email lately with that in the subject then when that subject dies just
delete it (keep these at the top of the list)

Now you may be wondering what is the point in all of this. well my reasoning
is sometimes you will have a question about 'installing kde' and you thing
you remember seeing someting about that a few months ago on the mailing list
you can just click on the 'KDE' folder and scroll down untill you find what
you need. The alternitive is to spend 30 min or so looking through the
archives on the mandrake webpage. Or another example would be you want learn
about viruses and linux since you have the filters set up you can look in the
virus folder and see whats in their. But anyway i really like the set up
since i subscribe to more than the mandrake lists i get around 500-600 emails
a day from the lists all togather and i needed an advanced way to group
similar things togather.

One major point if you go to set up something like this is order is everything
in the world for the filters. each email starts at the top working its way
down when it hits a match it stops. so think about placement! Put very
specific filters at the top and broad ones at the bottom. my last filter
takes anything that is left and has 'fwd' in the subject is placed in a
seperate folder called forwards. (Some friends love to fwd garbage to ya) and
right before that i have what i like to call a sex filter that bounces
anything having to do with the topic back to the sender and then a copy in
the trash (since i added this one i don't get much anymore)

Hope this helps someone
Brian
