Hi Terry ...

I have Win4Lin working perfectly on Mandrake 8.1. While I don't have a
specific suggestion to solve your problem, perhaps the following info may be
of some help:

I had some difficulty getting Mandrake 8.1 to work because it failed to
recognize my very generic video card (S3 Virge), after I got some partial
help from Mandrake tech support and then had to fiddle around for a couple
days trying to get command line Xfdrake to work (since it didn't work as
advertised), I finally got the video card to work.

Downloaded Win4Lin and it installed and ran perfectly on the first attempt
... though I did have to consult with Win4Lin tech support on a couple of
fine-tuning issues. They responded same day on the first question and
second day on a couple of others, so if you don't get the answers you need
from this list, you might try Win4Lin tech support.

Please feel free to contact me directly if I can be of any further help re
Win4Lin. While I hope to get totally free of M$ Windows, I think Win4Lin is
a positively fantastic way to facilitate the transition.
