Terry, is that the only app you're trying to use that does this dirty trick?
I ask because Acrobat Reader is available for GNU/Linux. I installed it last
week (or maybe the week before) for a friend and it seems to work perfectly
well. Even the plug-ins worked in Mozilla and Konqueror.

Far as Win4Lin have you installed your Windows fonts in Mandrake or are you
just using them from Windows? Have a crack with drakfont and see; you may be
able to get them recognized (maybe)? Read the documents you should already
have on the hard drive for instructions on installing Windows fonts. The
relevant portion should be available through a browser starting at:

file:/usr/share/doc/mandrake/en/user.html/drakfont.html#drakfont-main
if you want to see it from "graphic mode" (desktop).

While I'm at it; the link I'm posting has a "mini-how-to" on installing
AcroReader, and a couple other links you may find useful.

Don't put too fine a point to your wit for fear it should get blunted.
