In /etc/sysconfig/network set the host.domain name something like HOSTNAME=chris.localdomain In /etc/resolv.conf set the first line to search localdomain You may be picking up that domain name from your DSL modem via DHCP. To stop that edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 (assuming eth0 is connected to your modem) and add the line NEEDHOSTNAME=no Then 'service network restart' to restart networking and the changes will be applied. derek -- www.jennings.homelinux.net http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org
