Eric,
Don't be suprised if Linux can use the entire drive. Linux does not use
the BIOS to access the drive, except for the boot loader. That loads the
kernel, and inital RAM disk. This is why the practice of having a small
/boot partition near the front of the drive started. You would put the
kernel and the initrd file there, along with the files for Lilo or Grub.
On dual boot systems, it was common to have Windows on the part of the
drive that the BIOS could access, and give the rest to Linux.

With your setup, you have lots of options on how you use the space the
BIOS does not see. Just remember that /boot has to be in the part the
BIOS can see. What I usualy do is create a 32M /boot partition as the
first partition, starting at the beginning of the drive, and go from
there. But with your system alread installed, this probably isn't going
to work for you. Depending on your system setup, you may want to use it
for /home, or /var. Or you may want something like /data or /backup,
depending on how you are using your system. I have set up systems with a
large partition just for music and/or video files - especialy usefull if
you are setting up a media server.
