I have installed LE 2005 on my spare hard drive, for checking it
out. The installation included both KDE and Gnome. But Gnome does
not appear as a session in the desktop manager for selecting.

There is probably a file somewhere which has to be edited, but I
can't find it. I thought that Gnome should appear automatically in
the list of sessions.

Please, how do I get Gnome to run?

Many thanks

I would wipe (write zeros ) the drive and do a new install with Gnome
selected.

Have found starting with a "clean" drive sometimes helps.

Gnome should appear in the Session select box -& it should work.

Earl,

I have now done an upgrade from 10.1 rather than a clean installation of LE2005, and Gnome2.8 is selectable and running OK.

So I am wondering if a Gnome package (library, perhaps) is missing on the magazine cover DVD which I used to install LE, and LE is using the package/library which 10.1 installed. It's the Linux Magazine cover DVD.

Thanks again for your help.

Keith
