Okay - yes the Internet connect goes to modem, to first box with
mandriva, to switch, then another cable from switch to second box. Does
the cable from first box to switch go to ordinary port in switch or to
Uplink?
I've had a fiddle in MCC - but obviously not quite right yet.
BTW, Rosemary; Assuming that you're using Mandriva's Internet Conection
Sharin Wizard, keep in mind that that it will install Shorewall AND the
Squid proxy server.
To some extent that is a good plan, but then you have to reconfigure
your web-browser on the second PC to use port #3128 under the section
labelled 'proxy' or 'connection' settings.
ie; in Firefox, under Edit>Preferences>General>Connection, you would
click on Connection Settings, and either select the 'Auto-detect proxy
settings for this network' or 'Manual proxy configuration', where you
would put the IP address of the network card of your Mandriva box and
the port number would be 3128.
So, if the IP address of the Mandriva PC's network card is 192.168.0.1,
then that would be the IP address that you would place in the HTTP proxy
of your browser, followed by the port Number '3128'. Unless Squid
configures itself as a transparent proxy, your second box would be
unable to connect to the internet unless this was enabled.
But,...Use this ONLY if your Squid service is NOT running in transparent
mode.
Hope that solves another part of the mystery.
