The reasion for this is that cooker is used to debug packages before they make it into the normal distribution. So there are times when things are not going to work right. There is not much support for cooker on the newbie and expert lists. There is a seperate cooker list, but people on that list are expected to know how to do basic setup and troubleshooting. You would be better off running 10.2 (Limited Edition 2005).
In any case, you should probably visit http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ to update your package sources. You can create a local source from mcc --> software package --> file menu --> Software Media Manager and pick Add custom. But as I said, you probably should not be running cooker.
