If you run mcc as root, it will give you a nice menu interface for setting up your system. Setting up networking is just one of the options. It will work from both the CLI and GUI. In X, there is a menu entry for it:
System --> Configuration --> Configure Your Computer If you pick this as a normaly user, it will ask you for the root password so it can run as root, and make the changes it needs to. While the menu system does not allow the fine control that editing the config files directly does, it is much easyer to use. And you can always edit the config files it creates if you want to.
