I was able to build my module. Instead of the substitution you
suggested, I had to make EXTRAVERSION=1-12mdksmp. What is left to do is
the configuration and here I have only one doubt, with which perhaps you
will be willing to help me. I have to make ifconfig <iface> <my IP
address, and many other configurations using <iface> which I do not know
what it means. I am not that newbie in Mandrake, but it seems I will
never be able to master it as many of you do. Sorry.

I would make it easy on yourself. If you run mcc as root, it will give
you a nice menu interface for setting up your system. Setting up
networking is just one of the options. It will work from both the CLI
and GUI. In X, there is a menu entry for it:

System --> Configuration --> Configure Your Computer

If you pick this as a normaly user, it will ask you for the root
password so it can run as root, and make the changes it needs to. While
the menu system does not allow the fine control that editing the config
files directly does, it is much easyer to use. And you can always edit
the config files it creates if you want to.

Of course I thought in doing what you say. Problem is that MCC does not detect my device. It asks me to load a driver by hand without more options. I have checked with "lsmod" that my module is loaded, but the device does not show up. HardDrake detects it as "other devices" and UsbView detects it quite nicely, as if it was a device just ready to use. Any ideas?

Teilhard.
