Not meaning to jump in here, but I just ran into the same thing.  I do have 
other Linux boxes, however, and a LAN connection.  
To answer your second question, the wvdial version I used was the one for 
10.1, I think (wvdial-1.54.0-2mdk.i586.rpm).  You will find a dependency for 
libwvstreams.so.3.74 which is satisfied by:
libwvstreams3.74-3.74.0.4mdk.i586.rpm
Your 10.1 disks may have these (I don't have 10.1, so I can't say for sure).  
If not, do a search with the winbox for those two rpms, install the 
libwvstreams rpm first, then the wvdial rpm.  You don't need urpmi, those two 
rpms are the complete wvdial package.
