When the lilo splash comes up hit Esc. Type linux 3 and you will boot without the gui. Log in as root. Type 'XFdrake' (without quotes) and you will be able to set your monitor type and resolution (generic flat panel should work well). XFdrake is part of Mandrake Control Center. All the drakes can, as far as I know, be run from the command line.
