If I remember correctly, the lower the number, the better the route, with 0 being the best route. Under normal condictions, it is the route that will be used. If for some reasion it can not be used, then another route to the same IP that is numbered higher will be used. Things get complicated when you start using more then one route to the same place...
I don't think that is the problem here. If I understand what is going on here, from the other messages I have read, then there is a wired connection to the same router. Having a wired and a wireless connection to the same router at the same time could cause interesting problems, depending on the router, and the setup on the Linux machine. If this is the case, then I would shutdown the wired connection, and unplug it, before trying to bring up the wireless connection. That way, we can be sure we are not getting problems cause by the interaction between the two interfaces.
