I get the "invalid hdlist error even if I use the auto allocate option. I
have generally work on 1.5 times ram for swap file and the machine has 512mb
at the moment, soon to go up to 1gb. Gonna give it one more try and if that
does not work will go back to 10.1 official download as I cant waste any
more time on this.

It just spent what seems like an age formatting and checking for bad
blocks
and when finished gave this error msg: invalid hdlist description.
looks like way more swap than you will ever need and may very well be the
problem. If you have a GB of ram then you probably don't need any swap.
But
if you really want to have some just put in 256 or 512mb. Also / would be
more than adequate at say 1Gb unless you have a lot of kernels loaded.
