Here's something you can do. Firstly, open a terminal (konsole, gnome-terminal, xterm - whatever) and just "su", enter the root password. Now, in the case of the ":123 filename.gif" you can do this typed exactly: rm ":123 filename.gif" THAT should resolve that issue for you.
