Cliff, thank you for your reply. I had no previous install of Xfce on my 
current Mandriva 2005LE system. There are no Xfce packages installed.

Why is there no base xfce-4.2.2 rpm package?
I will be away from my computer for several hours and won't be able to reply 
till perhaps this evening.
