Aha ! Light begins to dawn.Doesn't the modem have it's own webpage built in: I think you can get to it by doing something like http://10.1.1.1 => or you can check the docs => some of the modems have actually an ethernet connection along with the USB connection - most of my customers have that...Either which, once you've figured out how to get into the modem's internal web page, you can setup the username/password INSIDE the modem so that the connectivity is actually done by the modem - not the client machines. No matter what the idiots at Optusnet say (believe me, I'm on Optusnet - check the headers of this email) you can get your connectivity by at least setting the username and password and connection settings (auto reconnect) in the modem. On the Athlon (USB connection) Both Firefox and Konqeror time out on http://10.1.1.2 On the Dell (ethernet) Firefox delivers a page on Apache at http://10.1.1.2, but the online links time out. The D-Link modem has an ethernet port, but the Athlon machine does not. What we've done before in the past is to setup a system similar to yours so that the modem (IF in fact it has ethernet capabilities) into a 4 to 8 port hub, and the two workstations (or more) into the hub as well. ----------------------------------------------- Some people pray for more than they are willing to work for. ------------------------------------------------ |
