Right now my municipality is digging trenches all over our tiny village and burying thick, orange snakes in order to shine some laser light into our humble homes. The contractor (local power company) says that I need a fiber optic modem, but as usually they know jack shit about decent operating systems. Recommendations, please :

1. If light comes in at one end, what comes out in the other ?
2. What do I need at the box end (card ,cables) ?
3. They offer 100 Mb/sec for around $80/month, which is a bit more expensive than my present DSL at 4 Mb/sec... Is it worth it ?

I currently have a fiber optic connection, which also brings in CTV, and it does not use a modem. The cable comes into a terminal box outside the house where it is split into data, tv, and phone. In my computer room, there is a RJ45 jack, and a power supply cord coming out of the wall. It basically a LAN/WAN connection. The fiber optic should be carrying a digital signal. Mine is only 10 Mb and is about $95 a month for internet and cable TV. If you are going to get 100 Mb, then go for it!
