I would strongly recommend using Partition Magic to delete the partition 
that you are going to use for linux - being careful not to allow it to 
re-allocate it to XP.  Then, when you install Mandriva it can install 
into a completely blank space.  This is much safer than doing it into a 
partition created by PM.

One other thing - in case no-one has told you.  Make a good-sized 
partition for /home, then let Mandriva do its stuff with everything 
else.  That way, if you need to reinstall or upgrade your data is safe 
in your /home partition.
