As well as Gramps, which is quite nice, there's ftree; I've been running 
that on Mdk/Mdv since about 8.2, and it's just fine. It imports/makes 
GED files, and the display is nice; and it's not bloated. Look for it 
at http://www.vjet.demon.co.uk/ftree/. Gramps and ftree can both use 
the same base file. (I do like having multiple tools...)

I quite like Quanta, but: have you tried Kate for coding? It's *very* 
nice, and you can use it for other stuff besides HTML. Because I do 
Perl/HTML stuff, served from Apache, something like Quanta is less 
useful - until the scripts are run, the preview doesn't show quite the 
right thing.
