Try booting from a live CD (Slax is a very robust, leightweight and gui-friendly choice) and mounting your partition from there. Then you can try and repair the filesystems from there (fsck) and with a bit of luck copy your data to a CD or DVD. Or even better get your system up and running again. Odds are you can save most of your data, just don't panic and do something rash. If the thing still turns chances are good;-) After recuperating and backing up your data you could try a tool from your HD manufacturer to test the status of your drive. Most firms have them on offer but they ususally wipe your data first when they repair the errors:-( -- Good luck, HarM
