Hello,
First I used FreeBSD as my OS, because some friend of mine used it. Now
I wanted to give Linux also a try. Someone I know adviced me as starting
Linux user Mandriva linux.
Now I'm using it for some time. But I dislike the fact that there is no
good documentation on the mandriva site
(http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en-us/).
The only thing that there is explained is that you need to click on
"configure your computer" but if you want more then the standard things
there is no explanation. Where can I find some good documentation like
FreeBSD has?
Why doens't the doumentation say where to find packages on the internet
except on the cd. I needed to ask a friend of mine about that. He said:
go to "urpmmi.notix.net". Are there any more places to get more packages?
Is there also a good site like www.freebsd.org/ports where you also can
search on description of packages?
With kind reagards,

For package sources, you may want to take a look at
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and configure additional sources for
software. You will especialy want the plf sources. You can then use the
add software GUI to look at the additional packages.
For documentation, you have a couple of options. For installed packages,
the documentation is usualy in /usr/share/doc. You also have the option
of installing the HOWTOs. (urpmi howto-html-en howto-text-en)
There is also a lot of Mandriva specific documentation at
http://mandrake.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/WebHome.
