Yes. You need the firmware for that card.
If this is 2005LE then you can get the firmware from 'plf' (Penguin Liberation 
Front)
If you have not done so already go to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/
and set up  sources for 'plf-free' and 'plf-nonfree' 
Then using your software install GUI install the package ipw2100-firmware
