[newbie] Inconveniences linking a folder to my desktop.

I have tried to link my 'Documents' folder to my desktop and this is what happend.

1. Linking process OK (drag it to desktop and select link)
2. Link is not showing
3. Tried again and warns about overwritting '/home/user/Documents' itself
4. Still not showing like either on desktop of /Documents folder

Ideas?
