                      Hi,
I need to network two computers running MDV2006, both of them are connected to a router, which provides the broad band Internet service, this net worked pretty well under WXP. Some days ago I received here some network advices and I proceed according the articles
 (http://mandriva.vmlinuz.ca/index.php/SysAdmin/Networking/HomeNetwork)
recommended. Now the Internet connection works Ok and I'm able to ping the each machine from the “venus” one, but when I try to ping “terra” from “venus” the result is:
PING venus.sol.lan (192.168.0.189) 56(84) bytes of data.
and nothing more happens. If the “venus” box is shut down the result of the ping command is:
PING venus.sol.lan (192.168.0.189) 56(84) bytes of data.
From linpow (192.168.0.178) icmp_seq=529 Destination Host Unreachable”
I guess the ping response is disabled via your firewall or services of your
venus host.

I guess your router is firewall capable, so it is not so important to
run firewalls inside your local network. If you need to open some ports
to the internet, try to use not the general ports, switch on your router's
firewall and that's all.

e.g.: the general ssh port is 22. Open your 15022 port on your router and
portforwarding to your venus:22. In this case most of the scanner robots
will fail to attempt ssh connections to your machine. Similar to ftp or
http if you make settings
