hi all,

i usually want a fresh start after 2 months as i mess up things by my R&D.
my vendors says formatting has an bad effect since it involves physical cleanup and complex magnetic operations.frequent formatting is bad atleast under windows,he doesnt know about linux.

This is like saying that reading/writing to the drive is bad for it.
When you do a normal format of the drive, it is a high-level format.
All you are really doing is re-writing the FAT in Windows, or the
superblocks in Linux. You re-write part of that every time you save
or delete a file.

Now, if you really want to do a lot of re-writing of a drive, all you
have to do is run defrag or speed disk in Windows. This does a lot
more writing to the drive then formatting does.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like your vendor does not know what
he/she/it is talking about it. Does your vendor know the difference
between a high level and a low level format?
