Hello folks and seasons greetings to all,
My son has just bought a new computer.
MOBO Biostar K8VGA-M
CPU AMD sempron 64 bit, socket 754
BIOS Award legal, supports APM1.2, ACPI & USB, 307-0168.
It came with MS XP loaded.
He has not started XP so far.
The problem comes when he installs Mandriva 2006. Al is normal up to accepting
the Mandriva licence screen. The next screen shows the following message and
freezes there.
"Installing driver for hard drive controller USB storage"
He has tried with 2006 - 64 bit, 2006 - 32 bit, 10.1 and Knoppix. In every
case the installation halts the driver for hard drive screen.
Is there a problem with this MOBO?
Thanks for your ideas
John Montgomery
Does this computer have an external USB hard drive or other USB
device (other than mouse or keyboard)? If so, you may want to
install without those devices plugged in. In the past, Mandriva has
had some trouble with USB devices on boot or install. I'm not sure
if this applies to 2006, but it did with LE2005 and 10.1.
