The fact that you like to look at porn, etc., is irrelevant to the
question you asked originally. In fact it's too much information for us.
:-) However, if you want to cover your tracks on a linux machine, all
you need to do is empty out all the log files in /var/log (Do not delete
them, just empty them. For this you must be logged in as root.)
To remove the evidence of your visits to dubious URLs, it's simply a
matter of going into your browser advanced preferences and removing the
cached material, and the same for cookies. If you really want to make
sure, go into the browser cache directory/ies and remove the stuff by hand.
If you connect to the net via an ISP, then a log of your browsing and
downloading will be somewhere beyond your reach, and, in theory, your
employers could find where you've been if they obtain a court order.
If you go through a company proxy or firewall then you're nailed.
(However you say that you don't.)
There is no way to protect your home directory and files from root, but
they may be protected from other users by the simple adjustment of the
permissions and ownerships of files and directories.
cheers
Duncan
p.s. They say you'll go blind if you do it too much.
