Mike, you can check IRQ conflicts like this:

cat /proc/interrupts

>From the results, you can see if there are any devices using the same IRQ.

If there are - you can try shifting cards around. Also, if you're -not- using 
some things on your PC (printer port, just for example) you can turn them off 
in BIOS and gain an IRQ or 2 back. Just make sure its not something that you 
are actually using! :-)
