I am running a dual boot XP/mandriva 2006. I want to fax, but linux

devices have conflicting settings of somekind. Any ideas on how to debug
this problem?

Mike, you can check IRQ conflicts like this:

cat /proc/interrupts

From the results, you can see if there are any devices using the same IRQ.

If there are - you can try shifting cards around. Also, if you're -not-
using some things on your PC (printer port, just for example) you can turn
them off in BIOS and gain an IRQ or 2 back. Just make sure its not
something that you are actually using! :-)

HTHs.

The modem does not show.
It was installed on windows using com2 and irq 3.
The modem now a winmodem. It is Best Data #56sf92, a controller based modem which installs in an ISA slot.

Thanks for your reply Mile
if it truly an isa modem, you might just have to configer it as a serial port modem. but you might want to disable the bios controlled second serial port on the box. are there jumpers or switches to set an IRQ on the modem?
