I'm learning Kubuntu - Breezy and really like apt-get and synaptic.

Sorry, what is this "dependency hell" you speak of?
The most vexing recently might just be the obscure package I want to use ...
Gourmet, a recipe database program. In trying to load it in Mandrake, I just
gave up when packages had dependencies with dependencies with dependencies
some of which were looking for older versions than what came with MDV 2005. I
also had problems trying to get Gwenview at one time and then f-spot. I guess
the problem might be me and not Mandriva. <grin> I'm still a newbie.
Hiya
The solution in those kinds of situations is to get the source of the
package and compile it on your system. This process will introduce you
to a new kind of "dependency hell", but once all of the relevant "devel"
packages are installed you'll be very impressed.
cheers
