Might a full /usr cause other problems? I know that full partitions have caused me great headaches in the past. Did you make more room? What happened after that? My experience with 2006 has been _very_ smooth. CUPS is a bit slow because of a recent update, but that's about my only complaint (and I could technically install a cooker RPM to fix that).
