Well, I am assuming that it is. There are several ways of doing what you want.
One way is to have two smallish root file systems, one for each machine, and
lilo entries which point to different root partitions, and then have another
partition which is common to both.
Another way is to make two versions of all the relevant configuration files,
and write a couple of scripts to copy them back and forth. I do something
similar with /etc/fstab and /etc/resolv.conf on my laptop. When I arrive at
work, I run a script called "work" which copies a file called
"/etc/fstab.work" over "/etc/fstab" and "/etc/resolv.conf.work" over
"/etc/resolv.conf". When I get home I run a script called "home"...
Obviously you would need to copy a few more files back and forth, but I'm sure
you get the idea.
I think the first method I have suggested is the most elegant, in that it does
not involve running any scripts or fiddling around.
