When I installed mandriva sle 2005 I chose to put the disk
images on the hd.
Now there is no more space on the root partition and
xwindows will not load.

My short term solution is to delete the images - but I do
not know where and what they are saved as.

Boot into Failsafe mode from lilo.
type 'mc'
Using the file Find function from the commands menu, enter *.iso in the
Filename field, remove the x (checkmark) from the Case Sensitive field
and hit OK.

You'll find 'em. Highlight a file called <something>.iso in the results
panel and hit enter. you will be taken to the directory which contains
that file.

select the file by moving your cursor to it and hit the F8 key to delete it.

Easy eh, now learn to use mc too.

To reboot your machine once you have regained the space, type 'reboot'
and tap your enter key.

I hope you are making notes here :-)

Cheers

John
John, I would also recommend you run install and run anacron so that your log files (what most likely is eating the hard drive space on you) get 'rotated' or try leaving the computer on overnight, so that cron has a chance to run.
