when adding a repository as an update source it is best to use the --update switch to urpmi.addmedia, then using that same switch to urpmi itself will use only update sources, unless of course one uses the gui in which case i guess it is done for you, i find however that a quick urpmi.update --update && urpmi --auto-select --update on the command line to be quicker than the gui
